Over a billion apps downloaded in a week
Flurry, a company which claims to track over 20 billion anonymous, aggregated end-user application sessions each month, said that they tracked 1.2 billion app downloads in the week of 25-31 December 2011.
For its report, Flurry said that it used a data-set from over 140,000 apps running on the significant majority of iOS and Android devices – adding that its analytics service runs in more than 20% of all applications downloaded on a given day from the App Store and Android Market.
According to Flurry, with its application penetration it can detect 90% of all new devices activated each day.
In a previous report, Flurry estimated that a record-breaking 6.8 million iOS and Android devices were activated on Christmas Day, along with an equally record-breaking 242 million application downloads.
Flurry said that the data from December 25 – December 31 revealed that even more records were set: now for the highest number of device activations and app downloads of any week in history.
The company estimated that over 20 million iOS and Android devices were activated, and 1.2 billion applications were downloaded.
In addition to data on the total app downloads for the last week of December 2011, Flurry also provided a graph of the top 20 app downloading countries.
Flurry explained that it doesn’t find it surprising that the US dominates the app download numbers as, just prior to the holidays, it reported that 109 million out of 246 million (44%) active iOS and Android devices were in the US.
