ANC worried about mess at Department of Telecommunications and Postal Services

The City Press has reported that the ANC is worried about Department of Telecommunications and Postal Services (DTPS), and called for a meeting with Minister Siyabonga Cwele to discuss the issue.

The newspaper reported that the meeting focussed on the chaos at the department, where only two of the ministry’s six divisions have a deputy-director general in charge.

According to the report, Cwele decided to charge Director General Rosey Sekese following the meeting with the ANC.

A statement issued by Cwele on 11 November revealed that Sekese was served with charges, and the disciplinary process started on 3 November.

“The Department will advise the public once these processes have been concluded by the chairperson of the inquiry,” said the Minister.

Sekese was placed on precautionary suspension in August, following reports that she was purging the department of those who opposed her.

The troubles at the DTPS have a negative impact on many telecoms projects, including broadband roll-out and digital TV migration.
