The South African Post Office (SAPO) said the most important electronic product that customers can expect from it in the near future is eRegistered Mail.
eRegistered Mail carries the same legal status as paper-based Registered Mail, and enables users to send electronic mail, from single items to bulk mail, to a valid email address.
eRegistered Mail is the “Official, Legislated Electronic Registered Mail of South Africa”, in terms of Section 19(4) of the ECT Act 25 of 2002.
Where any law requires or permits a person to send a document or information by registered or certified post or similar service, that requirement is met if an electronic copy of the document or information is sent to the South African Post Office Limited, is registered by the said Post Office and sent by that Post Office to the electronic address provided by the sender.
SAPO e-business head Nkosinathi Tolom said the launch of eRegistered Mail will be communicated to its customers.
