How many people live in South Africa – Latest 2018 stats

Statistics South Africa has released its mid-year population estimates for 2018, revealing how many people live in the country.

The report details population figures for the country, its provinces, and by gender and race.

Statistics South Africa stated that there are 57,725,600 citizens in the country.

Of this figure, 14.7 million live in Gauteng, while 11.3 million live in KwaZulu-Natal.

The Northern Cape had the smallest population amongst the provinces, with 1.2 million people.

The table and graphic below provide an overview of the mid-year population estimates for 2018.
