Big DA drop with 97% of voting districts counted

Democratic Alliance DA

The DA looks set to suffer a big drop in votes once the final 2019 elections numbers are in.

At the time of writing, just under 97% of voting districts had been counted by the IEC – and the DA was sitting on 20.69% of the national vote.

This is down from the DA’s 2014 performance in the national elections, which was 22.23%. This is the DA’s first drop in national votes since 2004.

The ANC was the clear leader in the national vote, and the top three parties’ figures – along with their previous 2014 national vote numbers – were as follows:

  • ANC – 57.70% (62.15% – 2014)
  • DA – 20.69% (22.23% – 2014)
  • EFF – 10.57% (6.35% – 2014)

In terms of provincial votes, the DA was also down in its stronghold of the Western Cape.

The party was sitting at 55.45% at the time of writing. This is compared to 59.38% in 2014.
