South Africa getting two new online stores

The Minister of Trade, Industry, and Competition, Parks Tau, will oversee the launch of two government-initiated e-commerce platforms on 1 July 2025.
According to a Department of Trade, Industry, and Competition (DTIC) statement, Proudly SA will host the launch event, which will see the government launch Shop Proudly SA and the Market Access Platform (MAP).
Shop Proudly SA will be a business-to-consumer e-commerce platform, while the MAP will act as a business-to-business portal.
“The two platforms are aimed at transforming and ensuring the success of the e-commerce industry in South Africa,” the department said.
“Tau believes that these platforms will help boost support for small, medium, and micro enterprises and locally manufactured goods and services.”
This will support further job creation and the resilience of the South African economy.
According to Tau, the platforms are designed to provide seamless and centralised portals, making it easier for consumers and procurement officers to find locally-manufactured products and services.
It will also help South African businesses meet their localisation targets. Tau also said the platforms will enable manufacturers to claw back some of the ground they have lost to cheaper imports.
“Over 1,700 locally made products will be housed in the platforms covering all sectors in South Africa. There will be something for everyone,” stated Tau.
According to Proudly SA CEO, Eustace Mashimbye, the Market Access Platform is a direct response to calls from large corporates in South Africa to expand access to locally made products.
“MAP is a database of reliable, local manufacturers and service providers from which businesses that have undertaken to increase their uptake of local products and services, can procure,” said Mashimbye.
“In essence, the database is a source of local content and quality vetted companies. Members of Proudly SA are automatically eligible to be enlisted on MAP as suppliers.”
He added that corporate procurement officials using MAP will be able to list their tender opportunities to be matched with listed local suppliers according to their preferential procurement goals.
