Y-toll – you get home quicker

Y-toll billboard

Sanral has stepped up its marketing campaign to encourage e-toll compliance with billboards which punt the benefits of e-tolls.

Sanral’s “Y-toll” billboards inform subscribers that the e-toll system is needed to support the improved Gauteng road infrastructure and that “you will get home quicker”.

These billboards follow various similar advertising campaigns by Sanral, which aims to convince South Africans of the benefits of the controversial e-toll system.

E-toll shops activity

E-tolling will kick in on Tuesday 3 December 2013, and the looming launch date, media reports, and Sanral’s marketing seems to have created some urgency among Gauteng’s road users.

MyBroadband visited the Centurion e-toll shop on Saturday, and found that many people were queuing to buy their e-tags.

This is in contrast to previous weeks when the shop was virtually always empty, indicating a lack of interest in purchasing e-tags.

On Wednesday Sapa reported that E-toll stores in malls across Gauteng remained quiet ahead of the arrival of the controversial electronic tolling of the province’s highways next week.

Curiously, Sanral’s e-toll staff were quick to ask MyBroadband to leave after we started to take photos of the shop. It was therefore not possible to interview any e-toll shop staff.
