Finance minister Pravin Gordhan delivered his budget speech 2014 today, in which he highlighted that communications minister Yunus Carrim published a new policy on broadband for South Africa.

According to Gordhan this new policy will in due course lead to modernisation of South Africa’s communications capabilities. He also said that several cities are bringing Wi-Fi connectivity to their environments.

The National Treasury also released the 2014 National Budget documents on 26 February 2014, which showed that the Department of Communications has stopped reporting on many of its “selected performance indicators”.

The National Treasury‘s 2014 Communications budget document reveals that many of the DoC’s programs have also been pushed back “due to the reprioritisation of funds”.
