Tuning your ipod

I’ve used cassette adaptors or just put my headphones on to get my fix of the past but recently I managed to lay my hands on a Macally FM Cup iPod adaptor. What this does is provide a cradle for your iPod that transmits the sound to your FM car radio. And because it’s plugged into the lighter socket it’s also charging your iPod at the same time.

The base of the device has been designed so that it fits into a standard cup holder, so there’s little chance of your iPod rolling around and being damaged.

There’s a nice little display at the front of the holder, so it’s easy to tune your car radio to the frequency you need to listen to the iPod. I’m sure that there are audio aficionados who would scream in horror at the audio quality, but I found it completely adequate for both podcasts and music.

What was strange was that when I was driving through areas with poor radio reception, the iPod’s audio also began to break up. I don’t know why that happens but it was such a short time that I didn’t worry about it. There’s also an audio in port so that any device with a headphone jack can be plugged in as well.

Macally also make an FMCup for the Sandisk Sansa range of players as well as another model that includes Bluetooth, so you can use it as a hands-free kit for your cellphone. I may have the simple model but for my needs it’s the next best thing to full iPod integration.
