Fancy a 7680 x 4320 PC screen?
The Video Electronics Standards Association has announced the next step in high-resolution screens – Embedded DisplayPort 1.4a.
The new standard allows laptops to use 8K screens (a resolution of 7,680 x 4,320), and enables a higher video data transfer rate for greater colour depth and higher refresh rates, said Vesa.
Other benefits of the new standard includes reduced system power usage through decreased frame buffer size and video interface data rate.
Samsung Display Co. vice-president Bong-Hyun You said the new standard would also allow for greater design flexibility in LCD panels.
“Samsung proposed this feature in order to permit panel makers to make even broader usage of the eDP interface in advanced panels, as well as reduce panel thickness, reduce power draw, and reduce cost.”
It is expected that eDP 1.4a will be used within systems by 2016, according to Vesa.
