Self-destructing computer chip keeps your top-secret data safe

Self-destructing chip

Xerox PARC engineers have developed a computer chip that explodes on command, as part of Darpa’s Vanishing Programmable Resources project.

According to a report by Engadget, the chip is made from Gorilla Glass – instead of plastic and metal – and is “”ion-exchange tempered”.

The glass chip shatters when triggered – which was done using a laser during a demonstration of the technology – allowing its contents to remain out of enemy hands.

The self-destruction process can also be triggered by radio signals or a physical switch.
