3D features added to Toshiba notebooks
Toshiba Computer Systems, a division of Toshiba Europe GmbH, announced extended support for 3D on its Qosmio F60 and the 3D enabled Satellite A665.
The updated laptop models will support Blu-ray 3D disc and streaming of 3D movie data via HDMI to a 3D-TV set, while the Satellite A665 also has a HD 3D display built in. Both laptops will also feature a 2D to 3D conversion application that adds a new dimension to 2D movies.
Toshiba said that the updated Qosmio F60 and Satellite A665 3D will be available during the fourth quarter of 2010 throughout Europe, Middle East and Africa.
Breathing new life into 2D videos
“As there is still only a limited number of 3D movie sources available, we now offer an enhanced 3D experience on the Satellite A665 3D, and also on 3D-TV sets,” says Reon Coetzee, Regional Sales Manager, Toshiba South Africa.
Both the Qosmio F60 and the Satellite A665 3D feature the new Toshiba Video Player 3D. This software application uses complex algorithms to ‘up-convert’ 2D DVDs to 3D, said Toshiba.
In the case of the Satellite A665 this 3D content can be viewed on the laptop’s 120Hz HD 3D-capable display.
Updates for existing Satellite A665 3D available
To ensure that all customers who already own a Satellite A665 3D can enjoy the new 3D features, all devices will be upgradeable by software download, Toshiba said.
The Toshiba Satellite A665 3D and Qosmio F60 will be available from Mustek at a recommended retail price starting from R13, 999 and R15, 999 respectively.
