TomTom Go 1000 Live launched

TomTom announced the availability of its high-end GO 1000 LIVE device on 18 November 2010.

“The brand new GO 1000 range is the future of driving”, says Joost Jetten, Vice President, Sales Sub Sahara Africa.

This is TomTom’s first device to feature a capacitive touch screen. Drivers can pinch to zoom in and out of maps, or scroll through menus with the tips of their fingers.

The TomTom GO 1000 range also features TomTom’s newest mount design, the Easy Click magnetic mount. According to TomTom it makes docking and undocking easier than ever before as drivers can simply hold their GO device against the mount and glide it into place.

In addition, TomTom have announced that the device features a faster processor which promises to increase the speed of route calculation. The device also features more up-to-date maps of Southern Africa, including coverage of the major towns and cities of Swaziland, Lesotho, Namibia, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Malawi, Angola and Zambia.

TomTom LIVE Services are also available on the new TomTom GO 1000 LIVE. These include:

1. TomTom Speed Cameras warn users about fixed safety cameras ahead while real-time safety camera reporting and sharing means that users can keep each other informed about mobile safety cameras.
2. Search with Google, particularly useful if the TomTom points of interest database doesn’t contain what drivers are looking for.
3. As weather plays an important role in everyday travel, drivers will now be able to receive local and five-day forecasts.

Availability and pricing

TomTom has announced that the Go 1000 Live, including one year of Live services, will be available from all retail stores nationwide for R3,999. TomTom lists the Go 1000 Live for R3,199 on their website.The device is also currently listed on the Makro website for R3,199.

These prices are higher than their initially announced plans to sell the device for around R3,000.

The LIVE Services subscription will cost R499.00 for the second year.
