Microsoft is extending Windows 7 and 8.1 support for Intel Skylake-based devices.

The company said Skylake-based Windows 7 and 8.1 devices will receive extended support until:

  • Windows 7 – 14 January 2020
  • Windows 8.1 – 10 January 2023

The previous cut-off dates were set for July 2018.

“6th Gen Intel Core devices on Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 will be supported with all applicable security updates until the end of support for Windows 7 and Windows 8.1,” said Microsoft.

“Future silicon platforms including Intel’s upcoming 7th Gen Intel Core (Kaby Lake) processor family and AMD’s 7th generation processors (Bristol Ridge) will only be supported on Windows 10.”
