New MacBook Pro has un-upgradable hard drives

The new Apple MacBook Pro with Touch Bar has started shipping to clients, who have discovered that the SSD chips in the laptop are soldered to the logic board.

According to a report by 9to5Mac, this means that the SSD size you buy with your MacBook Pro is the size you will have for the life of the device.

“You may want to take a fresh look at those rather eye-watering upgrade prices,” stated the publication.

It conceded that while the prices are high, the storage units are high-speed NVMe PCIe SSDs, which are “crazy fast”.
