Intel confirms 9th-generation Ice Lake processors
Intel’s successor to its 8th-generation Intel Core processors will be named Ice Lake, according to the company.
Ice Lake will be the 9th generation of Intel Core processors and will be manufactured on an improved 10nm process node – following the expected launch of the company’s 10nm Cannonlake processors later this year.
The move to a 10nm process node follows an extended range of products based on Intel’s 14nm architecture, including Broadwell, Skylake, Kaby Lake, and Coffee Lake processors.
Following its move to a 14nm manufacturing process, Intel abandoned its traditional Tick-Tock architecture model – which featured two generations per process node.
It now uses a “Process-Architecture-Optimisation” model which sees multiple architecture optimisations built on the same process node.
