Samsung starts production of HBM2 Aquabolt memory

Samsung has started mass production of its second-generation 8GB HBM2 memory.

Named Aquabolt, the memory boasts the fastest data transmission speed on the market – delivering 2.4Gbps per pin.

The new memory boasts a 50% improvement in DRAM performance over Samsung’s first-generation 8GB HBM2 packages.

A Samsung 8GB HBM2 Aquabolt package can deliver 307GB/s data bandwidth, which is 9.6-times faster than an equivalent GDDR5 package.

Samsung said using four packages in a system will improve performance by up to 50% compared to standard HBM2 memory.
