Qualcomm has confirmed it will launch updated chips for Wear OS devices this year, Wareable reports.
The company said several smart watch manufacturers would also release new devices following the launch of its new processors.
Most current Wear OS devices use Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Wear 2100, which was launched in February 2016.
The new chips will feature improved performance and will be optimised to deliver better always-on displays.
Qualcomm also stated that the new Watch OS silicon would allow for smaller smartwatches.
Watches which currently use the Wear 2100 chip include the Diesel On Full Guard, which packs a touch AMOLED display and is IP67 water resistant.
