Intel launches new 28-core Xeon CPU
Intel has released its new Xeon W-3175X processor, which boasts 28 cores and 56 threads.
The workstation CPU is an unlocked chip which allows for extensive overclocking, and is compatible with Intel’s C621 chipset.
The Intel Xeon W-3175X has base and boost clock speeds of 3.1GHz and 4.3GHz respectively, and features a 38.5MB Intel Smart Cache along with a TDP of 255W – higher than many discrete graphics cards.
This processor is an enterprise-level product designed to handle extreme workloads such as film editing and 3D graphics rendering, and its C621 chipset supports 68 PCIe lanes and up to 512GB of RAM.
Intel said its new Xeon CPU is available from system integrators for a retail price of $2,999.
