Huawei announces MatePad Pro 13.2-inch — its largest and most powerful tablet

Huawei has launched its new flagship tablet, the MatePad Pro 13.2-inch, at its Q4 Global Product Launch in Dubai on Tuesday, 12 December.

Huawei said the MatePad Pro 13.2-inch is the thinnest and lightest ever large-sized tablet, and features a world-first flexible OLED display.

Its display offers a 2,880 × 1,920 resolution, 1,000 nits of brightness, and a 120Hz refresh rate with HDR Vivid and Huawei’s own X-True technology for improved colour reproduction and contrasts.

Furthermore, thanks to a slim 3.4mm bezel on all four sides, the MatePad Pro has a screen-to-body ratio of 94% — the highest Huawei has achieved on a tablet.

Complementing the display are four custom subwoofers and two tweeters, which produce a combined 82dB of sound.

Performance and battery

In terms of performance, Huawei has not confirmed which processor the MatePad Pro 13.2-inch will feature, but it offers 12GB or 16GB RAM and 256GB or 512GB of storage.

It also uses a large 10,100mAh battery that offers up to 12 hours of video playback on a full charge.

88W fast charging lets you charge the battery from 0% to 85% in 40 minutes, or up to 100% in 65 minutes.

Huawei also touted the battery’s improved heat dissipation, which enhances thermal conductivity by 30%.

Productivity and accessories

The MatePad Pro 13.2-inch supports several productivity-focused accessories, such as the Huawei M-Pencil and the Huawei Smart Magnetic Keyboard.

Huawei equipped the MatePad Pro 13.2-inch with its NearLink connectivity technology to improve communication with the optional M-Pencil.

“This enables you to write and draw more naturally, and [the M-Pencil] is the industry’s first stylus with 10,000 levels of pressure sensing — more than double the current industry maximum,” said Huawei.

The Smart Magnetic Keyboard comes as standard, and has 1.5mm key travel and 79 keys across six rows.

It uses a split design that enables you to use your MatePad Pro 13.2-inch in various form factors, too.

South Africa will get the Wi-Fi-only version of the Huawei MatePad Pro 13.2-inch.

Huawei had not confirmed the local variation’s specifications, launch date, or pricing at the time of publication.

Huawei also announced the new MatePad Air PaperMatte tablet that will not be coming to South Africa.
