Cheapest high refresh rate monitors in South Africa

Display technology has advanced significantly over the years, and South Africans can now buy monitors with high refresh rates for as little as R1,803.

Several monitor options are available for less than R4,000, including 144Hz and 165Hz models.

MyBroadband searched for the most affordable 100Hz refresh rate and higher monitors available in South Africa.

A monitor’s refresh rate refers to the number of times the display shows a new image per second. The higher the refresh rate, the smoother the image appears on your monitor.

It should be noted that looking for the most affordable monitors effectively limits certain aspects of what you can get. For instance, of the fifteen monitors listed, only one offers a resolution higher than 1080p.

The most affordable option we found is the 22-inch MSI PRO 1080p Professional Monitor, which has a 100Hz refresh rate for R1,803 from Progenix.

MSI offers a 24-inch version of the monitor, available for R2,388, also from Progenix.

Evetech also sells one of the most affordable monitors — the 100Hz Cooler Master GA241 24-inch FHD Gaming Monitor — for R2,199.

The cheapest 144Hz monitor available is the 24-inch Cooler Master GM238-FFS FHD Gaming Monitor from Progenix for R3,299.

For R200 more, South African gamers can grab the only QHD — 1440p — monitor listed from Evetech. Namely, the 27-inch Cooler Master GA271 Gaming Monitor.

While the monitor offers the highest resolution of the lot, its refresh rate maxes out at 100Hz.

The most affordable 165Hz monitor available is the 24-inch ViewSonic VX2418-P-MHD 1080p Gaming Monitor for R3,693 from Takealot.

There are several 165Hz options available from stores like Takealot, Incredible, and Evetech, with prices ranging from R3,693 to R5,499.

Prices increase further when considering monitors with refresh rates higher than 165Hz. We found three options that are available for less than R7,000.

Takealot sells the 24-inch AOC 24G2ZE 24-inch FHD Gaming Monitor, which has a 240Hz refresh rate, for R6,849.

Incredible sells two monitors with refresh rates higher than 165Hz — the 27-inch Acer Predator XB273GX Gaming Monitor and the 27-inch Dell G2723H FHD Gaming Monitor — both for R6,999.

The Acer monitor features a 240Hz refresh rate, while the Dell advertises a refresh rate of up to 280Hz.
