Dell beats HP and Apple in the South African business market
MyBroadband’s business technology survey revealed that Dell is the most trusted laptop brand in South Africa’s business market, followed by HP, Apple, and Lenovo.
The survey was completed by 783 respondents. Only responses from executives and managers who decide which ICT products their companies buy were considered.
Dell was the clear winner with 37% of the vote, illustrating its strong brand awareness among South African businesses.
Dell is headquartered in the United States and is best known for its computers and computer-related services.
It has a very strong presence in the South African business market, confirmed by the latest MyBroadband survey results.
HP ranked as the second most trusted laptop brand among businesses, with 18% of the vote, followed by Apple, 15%, and Lenovo, 14%.
These ratings align with research from the International Data Corporation (IDC), which tracks PC shipments in the broader Southern African market.
South Africa is the biggest market for PCs among the 13 countries included in the IDC’s Southern African region.
The research also differs in that the IDC tracked all PC shipments, while MyBroadband tracked brand awareness in the South African business market.
Despite these differences, the results revealed a close link between brand awareness in South Africa and regional shipments.
The IDC said HP, Dell, and Lenovo enjoyed the most unit shipments in the Southern African market.
These three brands also dominated the South African business market in terms of brand awareness.
The only exception was Apple. It has a strong brand in South Africa. However, it did not match the other brands in shipments in the Southern African region.
This could be expected as Apple’s presence in Southern Africa is not comparable to that in South Africa.
Apple laptops are also significantly more expensive than many of the other brands, which is a challenge in many poor African countries.
South Africa’s rankings also align with global trends. Dell, HP, and Lenovo are also the world’s most popular computer makers, followed by Apple, Asus, and Acer.
The chart below shows the most trusted laptop brands among South African business decision-makers.
