LG transparent TV unveiled
While its concept may seem impractical at first, the LG Signature OLED T TV truly is a technological wonder.
Revealed at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas on Wednesday, LG’s transparent TV aims to give users the freedom to organise their living spaces better.
LG believes eliminating a dominant black screen will better suit decor within customers’ homes.
“Its transparent OLED screen removes the usual constraints that come with conventional TVs. No longer does the TV have to be placed against the wall,” LG said.
“Instead, users can place the OLED T in the middle of the room to become a divider or prop it against the window without blocking the view outside.”
To further increase convenience, LG’s Zero Box Connect sends image and audio signals to the screen, allowing users to place the TV anywhere in a living space, regardless of where the plug points are.
While it may be beneficial when the 77-inch TV is off, given the potential distractions in the background, it isn’t easy to imagine that a transparent screen will improve or even equal the viewing experience of a traditional screen.
That is until the opaque viewing mode is activated, when the device behaves as if it were a normal TV.
“The transparent OLED lets owners discover new forms of entertainment and use via its dual viewing experiences: transparent and opaque,” LG said.
“For viewing in picture perfect OLED, simply click a button to raise the contrast screen. In this way, users can instantly switch to take full advantage of LG OLED’s enhanced picture quality through the new Alpha 11 AI processor with 4-times greater AI performance.”
LG said that the Alpha 11 processor would provide a 70% improved graphic performance and a 30% faster processing speed than its predecessor.
