Samsung Exynos 5 Octa processor announced
During day 2 of CES 2013, on Wednesday (9 January 2012), Samsung introduced its Exynos 5 Octa application processor.
Stephen Woo, president of the System LSI Business, Device Solutions Division at Samsung, said that it is the first processor in the world to use ARM’s Big.Little technology.
Arm’s chief executive officer, Warren East, joined Woo on stage during his keynote presentation at CES to talk about the concept behind Big.Little.
East explained that the processor houses a total of 8 cores: four powerful Cortex-A15 cores to handle intensive tasks, and four additional Cortex-A7 cores for lighter workloads.
This design means that the Exynos 5 Octa offers maximum performance and up to 70 percent higher energy efficiency compared to the previous quad-core Exynos, Samsung said in a press statement that accompanied the announcement.
