OneDayOnly.co.za is turning 6 years old – a significant milestone for the daily deals website in a highly competitive industry.
OneDayOnly sold its first deal in April 2010, establishing itself as South Africa’s original daily deals site at a time when group buying was completely new in our country.
While only 5 million users had Internet access back then, according to PWC’s 2016 Retail & Consumer Outlook, this number has grown to 25 million internet users – almost 47% of South Africa’s total population.
With this growth, the daily deals market has become hugely competitive and other big players have emerged.
PWC expects this growth to continue at an accelerated pace, as access to Internet speeds up even more, and OneDayOnly attests to this.
“In the last few years in particular, we have grown exponentially, and we intend to keep driving this growth going forward,” said OneDayOnly director Maurits Vermeulen.
Typical: the company started with only two guys working out of their homes, one finding deals and one developing the website, and now employs more than 40 people spread over an office and two established warehouses in Cape Town and Johannesburg. And they’re hiring.
“This growth comes with its fair share of challenges, especially over the busy festive period where unprecedented volumes forced us to redesign many of our processes amidst extremely high demand,” Vermeulen said.
“Our continued focus on offering genuinely good deals, great customer service and a user-focused website works: we are able to offer our subscribers and customers something to look forward to each morning – something unexpected and surprising – and this continues to drive our growth.”
