The Certificate in Telecomms Policy, Regulation and Management at Wits will equip you with the skills and background you need to understand ICT policy and regulation in Africa.
In both South Africa, and the continent at large, the demand for Internet access is growing rapidly.
Issues and concerns related to electronic communications and the broader ICT sector are constantly evolving.
There is a pressing need for broadband access in the economy, at schools and universities, in urban and rural areas, at household and individual level.
A paradigm shift in policy and regulation is therefore needed to grow the ICT ecosystem and to promote e-development in 21st century African economies.
Changes are occurring in the broadband ecosystem and in electronic communications markets, including in the undersea cable market and markets for spectrum.
Globalisation of knowledge and convergence in markets have intensified the need to remain informed of current developments, trends, and practices in policy and regulation.
The TPRM course addresses these issues
The Wits LINK Centre’s Certificate in Telecommunications Policy, Regulation and Management (TPRM) looks at a wide full range of policy and regulation matters affecting the ICT sector in South Africa and its neighbours, from telecommunications and broadcasting to the Internet and broadband.
Aimed at decision-makers, regulators, researchers and professionals in the electronic communications sector, the course will equip you with the professional development expertise to engage with policy and regulation in the ICT sector.
Running between July and September 2016, the full block release programme comprises three modules, running for a week each, including:

The TPRM course comes highly recommended
Many people have successfully completed the programme, having found it to be highly relevant, even essential.
Rodney Chingono, a senior manager at Ericsson, has this to say:
TPRM is a very well organised and structured course. The content presented in the lectures was immediately relevant and practical to prevailing industry situations. The course modules are presented by industry experts in a collegial environment. The group assignments / tasks afforded an opportunity to develop new relationships with peers from different organisations. I would highly recommend TPRM to anyone who is interested in broadening their knowledge of a rapidly evolving ICT sector.
“This is an excellent and well-packaged technologically-savvy course, nourished with industry experts in the field of telecommunications, policy and law,” adds Ndaona Muyaya, (TPRM 2016 cohort graduant from Malawi). “It is a must have course for a manager working in a communications regulatory environment.”
Morna Ikosa, in Corporate Affairs at the Communications Regulatory Authority of Namibia (CRAN), shares the following:
The TRPM programme augmented my knowledge on the ICT industry. It helped me identify sectors within the industry that I can further specialise in such as ICT4D. I was also privileged to have been in class with people from diverse ICT backgrounds. They brought a wealth of additional knowledge to the class, which enriched my learning experience.
