Telkom leading the way in LTE

Telkom’s LTE network is leading the way in terms of users’ data consumption, with the company’s LTE subscribers now using more data per user per month on average than its ADSL and fibre customers.

This was one of many interesting insights Telkom Chief Commercial Officer Brian Armstrong gave delegates at the 2016 MyBroadband Conference.

Telkom was the lead sponsor of the event, helping MyBroadband provide an excellent conference for managers and executives from the IT and telecom’s industries in South Africa.

Armstrong also gave his views on the country’s ICT Policy White Paper – which proposes a single open-access mobile network and that established network operators may have to give back their spectrum.

He said the government’s plan to take back assigned spectrum was not a good idea, as it would discourage investment in the telecoms sector.

Armstrong also spoke about the future of broadband in South Africa, which he said is resulting in a need for increased speed, capacity, and security, along with decreased latency and “cost per bit” prices.
