Rugged design

The LaCie Rugged Mini SSD is designed to protect your data even if it takes a beating, making it the ideal solution for photographers, videographers, editors, and anyone who works on the go.

This protection is thanks to a sturdy aluminium chassis enclosed in LaCie’s iconic orange rubber protector.

A one-ton car can drive over it without your data being affected – and the same is true if you drop it from up to three metres.

Along with its impressive strength, the LaCie Rugged Mini SSD boasts IP54-rated resistance to dust and rain, and AES-256 self-encryption powered by Seagate Secure Technology to keep all your data secure.

LaCie also offers a Rescue Data Recovery service, meaning if you somehow manage to damage the SSD, LaCie will attempt to recover your data in its high-tech lab. This service has an impressive 95% success rate.

Impressive transfer speeds

In addition to its rugged exterior, the LaCie SSD offers industry-leading transfer speeds via its high-speed SSD technology and USB-C 3.2 2×2 cable.

Read speeds up to 2,000MBps and its 20Gbps 2×2 USB-C cable allow you to access data in a flash – and we were able to transfer large files in seconds.

The USB-C cable is compatible with USB 20Gbps and Thunderbolt 3 ports, and forward-compatible with USB 40Gbps and Thunderbolt 4 ports.

While we didn’t have a laptop with a fast enough USB-C port to reach the full 2,000MBps potential, we were able to pass the 1,000MBps mark on CrystalDiskMark with ease.

Compatibility and software

One of the distinguishing features of the LaCie Rugged Mini SSD is its compatibility with numerous devices.

It works with macOS, iOS, iPadOS and Windows devices – which makes it great for use on the go, as you can manage files easily between your laptop, phone, and tablet.

LaCie also includes a three-year limited warranty protection plan and several software packages, such as the LaCie Toolkit that makes backups easy, and a one-month Adobe Creative Cloud All Apps subscription.

The Toolkit can be installed from the LaCie website and lets you choose which files to automatically back up when you plug the SSD into your computer.

LaCie Toolkit also offers a mirror feature that lets you sync files in both directions, ensuring the latest data changes are always available on multiple devices.
