vivo Y100 review – Powerful performance and a colour-changing design
The vivo Y100 stands out in the mid-range smartphone market thanks to its stunning design, excellent performance, and large battery.
This is our experience after we got the opportunity to test the new smartphone from vivo.
The first thing we noticed when we opened the box was that the vivo Y100 looks great.
Its 3D design is understated and classy, while vivo’s new Breeze Texture finish adds a dash of flair to this attractive smartphone.
The vivo Y100’s design is also incredibly sleek, weighing only 186g and measuring 7.79mm thick.
This combination of good looks and lightweight feel is then complemented by one of the coolest design features we have ever seen on a smartphone – a colour-changing body.
The vivo Y100’s colour changes when exposed to sunlight – from a light green to a vibrant blue-green hybrid – and helps the Y100 stand out even more from its competitors.
Display
When turning on the vivo Y100, we immediately noticed how impressive its display is.
The 120Hz AMOLED screen offers 1,800 local peak brightness and a 91.9% screen-to-body ratio – both of which are exceptional in its segment.
The latest movies and series looked awesome in our testing as a result, while our favourite mobile games ran smoothly, too.
Using vivo’s innovative Fluorite AG display technology, the Y100 give users a clear and rich viewing experience while offering extensive durability benefits against wear, scratches, and fingerprint marks.
We noticed this in action when unlocking the smartphone using its built-in fingerprint sensor, as the usual fingerprint smudges were nowhere near as noticeable on the Y100.
Performance
The vivo Y100 packs a Qualcomm Snapdragon 685 octa-core chip built on an advanced 6nm process, ensuring the smartphone can handle all apps and tasks with ease.
You also get 8GB RAM, which is extendable to 16GB when using storage space as virtual memory.
When using the Y100, we found this large RAM allocation was great for multitasking – running several of our favourite apps at once without experiencing any lag.
The virtual memory is pulled from the Y100’s extensive 256GB storage, which is ideal for storing all of the photos and videos you will take using the Y100’s excellent camera system.
Camera
The rear camera system on the vivo Y100 comprises a 50MP primary sensor and a 2MP bokeh sensor, which ensure every shot delivers clarity, precision, and vibrance.
An additional a flicker sensor on the rear, which detects pulsating lights and adjusts your photography settings accordingly, and an 8MP portrait camera on the front round out the impressive camera setup.
The front-facing portrait camera, which is great for capturing your most precious selfies, also supports dual-view video, This lets you record vlogs where your front and rear camera feeds are shown simultaneously.
Battery
vivo smartphones are known for their excellent batteries and charging capabilities, and the Y100 is no exception.
The vivo Y100 features a 5,000mAh battery that guarantees all-day performance – even supporting intensive tasks like YouTube streaming for 16.6 hours on a single charge.
When you do need to recharge, vivo has equipped the Y100 with incredible 80W fast charge technology.
This allows you to power the Y100 up to 80% in only 30 minutes.
Overnight charging protection and temperature control are also built into the Y100, ensuring your smartphone won’t overheat or get damaged while you’re asleep.
