Samsung Galaxy Z Fold6 review – All the best technologies packed into one smartphone

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold6 is an incredible flagship smartphone with extensive AI features and a seamless foldable design.

This was our experience after receiving the smartphone to review.

It immediately stands out thanks to its sleek design, which makes it a joy to use both folded and unfolded.

Its new cover screen is larger, too, at 6.3 inches, and uses a more natural display ratio than its predecessor.

In our experience, using this front screen felt identical to a traditional smartphone.

Typing was a breeze, and swiping between apps and tools was incredibly smooth thanks to its 120Hz refresh rate.

The same refresh rate is available for the larger, unfolded 7.6-inch display – and thanks to its size, this display makes watching content, playing games, and typing messages a dream.

Additionally, both displays use industry-leading OLED technology which results in brighter, sharper, and hyper-accurate visuals at all times.

These elite displays are then protected by Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2, meaning dropping your phone is not the end of the world.

When combined with its improved hinge, this makes the Fold6 the most durable Galaxy Z Fold smartphone ever.

The power of AI

Once we were finished marvelling at the Fold6’s design, the feature we most wanted to test was its AI capabilities.

Samsung has powered the Fold6 with the exceptional Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor – a chip specifically designed for AI tasks.

The Fold6 supports the same Galaxy AI features that Samsung first made available in its S24 series, along with additional new features that take advantage of its foldable design.

These features include:

• Chat Assist – Type in a few keywords, and Chat Assist will craft an email or message using generative AI.
• Note Assist – Transcribes recordings and organises them into notes before producing efficient summaries
• Circle to Search – Circle text or an image with your finger or the S Pen, and your smartphone will search Google for results.
• Interpreter – Translates foreign languages on the spot. This can use both displays simultaneously for easier in-person conversations.
• Live Translate – Translates phone conversations in real-time, allowing people to converse in different languages.

Furthermore, thanks to Samsung’s long-time partnership with Google, the Galaxy Z Fold6 comes with the Google Gemini app that offers GPT features natively on your smartphone.

Photo AI

The extensive AI capabilities of this smartphone extend to its photography, courtesy of its ProVisual Engine.

This cutting-edge camera system supports extensive AI capabilities when capturing and editing photos. You can use AI to capture instant slow-motion videos, while AI algorithms work in the background to optimise elements like lighting and contrast as you take your photo.

We particularly enjoyed the feature where the camera app actively suggests how to frame our photos optimally – ensuring all of our snaps were on point.

When editing these photos on the Fold6, the Photo Assist feature delivered a wealth of advanced editing features – including the Portrait Studio.

Portrait Studio transforms your images into styles such as 3D cartoon and watercolour, for endless design possibilities.

You can also use AI to select objects in a photo and either remove, move, or resize them. Amazingly, the ProVisual Engine will then fill in the missing pixels using generative AI.

Our experience with the Galaxy Z Fold6’s photography capabilities was amazing, and we think this is a huge selling point of this smartphone.
