Western Digital 1TB SSD for PlayStation 5 – A literal gamechanger

Picture this: It’s Friday night, and you’ve just arrived home.

Your friends are begging you to join them for a few rounds of Call of Duty, but you have a problem.

The game is several hundred gigabytes in size and you don’t have it installed on your PlayStation 5, due to limited space on the internal storage.

It will take you a few hours to download, and by then your friends are logging off after the epic FPS action.

This is what happened to me a few weeks ago – and what led me to install the PlayStation-certified Western Digital Black 1TB SN850P SSD in my console.

The storage solution

For a PlayStation 5 gamer, running out of storage is extremely frustrating. This has become a more frequent challenge as games have gotten bigger in recent years – making managing the on-and-off shuffle of downloaded titles a chore.

The Western Digital Black 1TB SN850P SSD presented me with a simple solution.

As a PlayStation-certified SSD, it provided me with all the extra storage I needed and the superfast read/write speeds required by the PS5 to prevent bottlenecking game performance.

Whether I wanted to play huge AAA games or my favourite classics, I would no longer need to regularly delete and redownload titles when I wanted to switch games.

To install the SSD, I only needed to remove the side panel of my PlayStation 5, slide the SSD into the M.2 slot, and screw it in place.

I then powered up my console, formatted the SSD (required for first-time use), and began downloading the games I couldn’t previously fit on the standard storage.

As it is a PlayStation-certified SSD, everything worked perfectly – and it also has a reassuring five-year warranty, although I am confident I won’t need it.

A top performer

Complementing its 1TB of storage, the Western Digital Western Digital Black SN850P SSD offers exceptional performance.

Its PCIe 4.0 NVMe connection and M.2 form factor ensure superior data transfer speeds, while the storage medium itself is also incredibly fast.

This results in transfer speeds up to 7,300MB/s, which are comparable with the console’s built-in SSD, ensuring it provided me with industry-leading speeds that didn’t bottleneck the performance of any of my games.

Western Digital also equipped the SN850P with a heatsink for cooling that negates performance drops – even after hours of continuous gaming.

A worthwhile endeavour

The Western Digital Black SN850P SSD is the kind of upgrade from which it is difficult to go back – and one I found to be a worthwhile addition to my PlayStation 5.

It enhanced my gaming experience and felt like a natural extension of the console, integrating seamlessly and easily keeping up with the demands of my most intensive games.

If you are tired of wrestling with space on your PlayStation 5, or simply want extra storage capacity, the Western Digital Black SN850P SSD is the solution you need.

It is available with 1TB or 2TB options from Koodoo, Incredible, or Game4U.
