South Africans’ most popular online spots

Effective Measure released its March 2014 South African website traffic statistics recently, revealing that News24 is the largest site in the country, followed by MSN and IOL.

Effective Measure is the official traffic measurement partner of the IAB South Africa (formerly DMMA), and provides accurate traffic statistics for South Africa’s top websites.

According to the latest Effective Measure statistics, News24 attracted 7.1 million unique visitors in March 2014. MSN was second with 3.7 million visitors and IOL third with 2.8 million.

When it comes to only South African traffic, News24 was also the top website with 5 million unique monthly readers.

The following table provides an overview of the top websites in South Africa, ranked according to total and South African unique visitors. It should be noted that this table only includes IAB SA registered websites.

To gain an accurate view of the most popular websites among South Africans is not easy. Although not very accurate, Alexa does provide a fair view of which websites South Africans visit most.
