DStv BoxOffice app coming to Samsung Smart TVs

Samsung and MultiChoice will soon be launching a Smart TV application for DStv BoxOffice, business lead for TV/AV at Samsung SA, Ansgar Pabst, has said.

The application will allow owners of Samsung Smart TVs to rent and watch movies over their home Internet connection.

DStv BoxOffice users need not subscribe to one of MultiChoice’s satellite pay TV bouquets, though DStv Extra and Premium subscribers do get a discount on rentals.

Subscribers are able to rent movies using their decoders, provided they are HD PVR capable, while non-subscribers can use the online version of DStv BoxOffice to rent movies.

DStv BoxOffice has a desktop player for viewing movies on a computer, and an Android app that MultiChoice recently launched with Samsung for the Samsung Galaxy S5 smartphone.

The exact launch date of the DStv BoxOffice app for Samsung Smart TVs has yet to be revealed.
