MTN subscribers can look forward to a discounted rate for the Simfy Africa music streaming service, an anonymous source has told MyBroadband.
The Simfy Africa “Premium Plus” subscription, which usually costs R60/month, includes mobile and offline streaming in addition to the web and desktop streaming offered by the R25/month “Premium” option.
MTN plans to offer the “Premium Plus” subscription for R49/month, which will be deducted directly from your cellphone account.
Mobile billing is nothing new for Simfy Africa, which lists Cell C, MTN, and Vodacom as carrier billing partners on its site.
However, with the reduced rate MTN plans to set itself apart from other operators that support the service.
There is also talk of MTN zero-rating the mobile data for streaming music from Simfy, but this has not yet been confirmed.
The special rate is expected to be announced in the next week, our source said.
Update: MTN has confirmed that it has signed an exclusive mobile operator agreement with Simfy Africa to offer its customers music streaming services.
“MTN customers will receive an exclusive rate of R49 per month for the Premium Plus service,” MTN SA’s general manager of products and solutions Mike Fairon said. “Simfy Africa will allow our customers access to 23 million tracks, both international and local. Streaming will be charged at standard rates.”
