Red Meat website launched
“Every part of the meat supply chain is in some way represented on this website,” the RMIF’s chairman Dave Ford said in a statement.
The site, www.redmeatsa.co.za , went live on Wednesday.
Ford said the website, which represented all 12 role-player organisations within the red meat industry, would provide valuable information for both consumers and industry.
As well as news on beef, mutton, lamb and pork sales, the site provided contact details for all council members as well as member organisations.
It also had links to market research and industry statistics.
The RMIF, established in 1994 when the agricultural control boards were disbanded, is responsible for a number of prime functions including determining industry policy; monitoring service provider performance and annual audits; and liaising with industry and state structures.
Member organisations include the Commercial and Emergent Red Meat Producers, the SA Feedlot Association, the SA Pork Producers Association, Red Meat Abattoir Association, Association of Meat Importers and Exporters, Meat Processors Association, and the Skin
and the Hides and Leather Council.
Ford said the website also planned to include details from the National Federation of Meat Traders and the Consumer Council.
