FlySAA website mess

Numerous Internet users trying to access the website on Saturday night and Sunday morning were unpleasantly surprised when they were redirected to a parked website with the message “ expired on 01/17/2010 and is pending renewal or deletion”.

This message is typically displayed for domains where payment for the website address has not been made on time.  According to a basic Whois Record lookup the domain name – which was first registered on 16-Jan-1996 – has now been renewed and will expire on 17 January 2011. The ICANN Registrar is further indicated as the US based Network Solutions, with the local company INIT based in Randpark Ridge given as the DNS admin.

Complaints about problems with the started to surface on Saturday evening, with one Twitter user saying “ expired and now all traffic is being routed to NS landing page”, adding a screenshot about the landing page.

Another Twitter user said on Sunday morning, “Is it just me, or has SAA forgotten to pay their domain registration fees?”  MyBroadband forum members also discussed the issue with comments like, “Guess I won’t be buying my ticket with SAA”.

The FlySAA website was fully functional again around midday on Sunday.
