MTN subscribers who buy a Sony Xperia Z3 or Z3 Compact will receive a 12 month subscription to music streaming service Simfy Africa for free, Simfy announced in a press statement on Thursday, 20 November 2014.

In June 2014, Simfy Africa announced a partnership with MTN which saw users receive a discount on their subscription fee to the music streaming service.

An “All Access” Simfy subscription usually costs R60 per month, but MTN customers that subscribe via the operator’s website can get the same access for R49 per month.

Simfy Africa also revealed in the press release that it has bought itself back from its German partner, Simfy.

“Simfy Africa separated from simfy Germany in early 2014 as the companies were organically moving in opposite directions,” said Simfy Africa CEO Davin Mole.

Mole said that they are working on localisation of features and conservative use of data on the network that are clearly not a concern in Europe.

“It was important for us as a company to be focused on African consumers,” Mole said. “The fact simfy Africa is now independent and 100% locally based means we can do just that”
