Top 10 Facebook places in South Africa
Facebook recently launched a website that highlights the topics which trended on the social platform during 2014.
It also published a number of top 10 lists, including the top 10 Facebook games, entertainers, TV shows, and ALS Ice Bucket Challenge videos.
In a recently issued press statement, the social network included a top 10 list for South Africa: Top 10 Places.
The most popular places in South Africa on Facebook were:
- Kruger National Park
- V&A Waterfront
- uShaka Marine World
- Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden
- Cape Point, Cape of Good Hope
- Montecasino
- Nelson Mandela Square
- Loftus Versfeld Stadium
- Gold Reef City
- FNB Stadium

Facebook said it analysed the past year’s conversations on the social network to reveal the most talked-about global topics:
- World Cup
- Ebola virus outbreak
- Elections in Brazil
- Robin Williams
- Ice Bucket Challenge
- Conflict in Gaza
- Malaysia Airlines
- Super Bowl
- Michael Brown/Ferguson
- Sochi Winter Olympics
Methodology
On the Facebook year in review website the company said its methodology was as follows:
Year in Review top 10 lists were measured by how frequently a topic was mentioned in Facebook posts made between January and December 2014. To put this list together, Facebook posts were analysed in an aggregated, anonymised way, and then ranked to create a snapshot of the year on Facebook.
