Local Speedtest.net server growth
The Speedtest.net service is the premier destination for Internet users to test the download and upload speeds of their broadband service. Until recently South African broadband users had to make do with a single Speedtest.net server in Johannesburg, but that changed drastically over the last few months.
Telkom was the first company to join the Speedtest.net club at the end of last year when it added a speedtest server in its Cape Town data centre. Vodacom Business followed suit in the beginning of 2010 with Speedtest servers in Pretoria and Durban.
Neology is the latest company to add a local Speedtest.net server. The company launched its Midrand based speedtest server recently, and according to Neology CEO Matthew Austin the company has allocated more than enough bandwidth to ensure accurate results.
The latest edition brings the total number of local of South African Speedtest.net servers to six – based in Cape Town, Johannesburg, Midrand, Pretoria and Durban – a much better situation than a few months ago.
