Vodacom website fails subscribers

Over the last few days MyBroadband has received numerous complaints about Vodacom’s Vodacom4me and Vodacom.co.za websites.

According to one Vodacom subscriber a lot of functionality is broken when trying to access services, making it difficult to conduct basic tasks online.  “Things are so bad for me that I cannot even register because the new database is unable to sync data from the old database,” he said.

Vodacom subscribers also say it is unnecessarily difficult to find information on the new website.  “Things like carry-over for data details are often nowhere to be found while the flash heavy packages page never loads correctly. Mobile users will also have a hard time using the site if their phones do not support flash,” said one Vodacom subscriber.

On Thursday morning basic navigation of the Vodacom.co.za website was less than perfect.  Clicking on the data banner on the website gave the message “The OID specified in the request parameters is either null or invalid” while the direct ‘Data Packages’ link was also broken.

The problems seem to have started when the company tried to merge their Vodacom and Vodacom4me websites.

“With respect to the Vodacom4Me site, we took the decision to integrate this with Vodacom.co.za as part of a wider strategy to make customer interaction with Vodacom as straightforward as possible.  Vodacom4Me is being run in parallel with Vodacom.co.za until all the functionality from the 4Me site has been replicated on the .co.za site,” said Vodacom’s spokesperson Richard Boorman.

“The site was of course tested prior to launch, but due to some changes in backend systems and the addition of other functionality there have been teething problems that we are working hard to resolve.”
