Netflix price hikes planned
Netflix plans to slowly increase prices and push subscribers to take up more expensive packages in the coming years, The Guardian has reported.
Currently, Netflix is available in three tiers, and in the United States these are priced at: $7.99 for the SD single stream option, $8.99 for the HD two screen option, and $11.99 for the Ultra HD four screen option.
Netflix CEO Reed Hastings said that part of the plan is to “carefully” encourage subscribers in the US to take up higher-priced plans.
Price increases for the various plans are also on the cards, though Netflix said it won’t be making changes this quarter.
The only time frame confirmed for such increases is “over the next decade”, said The Guardian.
Netflix said it believes it will be able to add more content and offer more value to subscribers over the next 10 years, and then adjust its prices accordingly.
