Upload your data to Google Cloud by sending a third party your hard drive
Google has unveiled its Offline Media Import/Export service, allowing you to load data into Google Cloud Storage by sending your hard disk drives, tapes, and USB flash drives to a service provider who uploads data on your behalf.
This follows Google’s preview in 2013 of the service which allowed people to send Google their hard drives to be uploaded to Google Cloud Storage.
Google explained that Offline Media Import/Export is helpful if you’re limited to a slow, unreliable, or expensive Internet connection.
“To use Offline Media Import/Export, you can use any third party service provider you choose who can perform the service for you,” said Google.
“You must make your own arrangements for Offline Media Import/Export directly with the third party service provider you choose (and not through Google).”
The service is currently only available in North America, but is coming to the Europe, the Middle East, and Africa.
