MultiChoice is hiring someone to go after online pirates in SA
MultiChoice is hiring a Cyber Piracy Investigator, whose job will include profiling South Africans who illegally download video content.
The company, which operates satellite pay TV service DStv, said in the job listing that the post will be based at its Randburg offices in South Africa.
Candidates will have to monitor local and international torrent sites, linking sites, NZB sites, cyberlockers, and free and paid video distribution sites.
MultiChoice has been outspoken about piracy in South Africa, stating in March 2013 that it plans to work with regulators to “curb the illegal download of movies”.
The job posting is the first step to directly fight online piracy, though.
When asked whether it will take online pirates in South Africa to court, MultiChoice said it supports the protection of copyrights.
“We’re committed to uphold the laws and regulations of the Copyright Act, which makes piracy a criminal offence. We work in partnership with a number of different agencies to investigate instances where content is pirated and made available online,” said MultiChoice.
“Our aim is to ensure that our content providers continue to supply us world-class quality shows and movies so that our customers continue to get the best entertainment experience possible.”
