Google Analytics stats problem in SA?

Over the last week many South African webmasters have seen a noteworthy drop in their Google Analytics traffic statistics.  The lower statistics however seems to be an error rather than an indication of a true drop in traffic.

Numerous high profile local websites, including Wantitall and MyBroadband, have experienced a drastic decrease in traffic according to Google Analytics from last week – but without any apparent reason for the slowdown.

Other traffic measuring systems – including Nielsen Online and AWStats – contradict the decline in traffic shown by Google Analytics, raising questions as to why Google’s traffic statistics service is reporting a slowdown of traffic on local websites.

Google Analytics’ traffic reporting seemed to be back to normal again on Monday.

Julie Taylor, Google Sub-Saharan Africa communications & public affairs officer, confirmed that the Google team is aware of the problem with Analytics, and that they are working to resolve it as soon as possible.
