Top mobile websites in SA
Smartphones and other Internet capable mobile phones are growing in popularity, partly fuelled by fast mobile broadband networks in South Africa.
Local online publishers are capitalizing on the growth of mobile devices connected to the Internet, and it is hardly surprising that there is a massive growth in the number of unique visitors accessing mobile websites in South Africa.
According to the latest Nielsen Online statistics, local mobile websites attracted 3 266 977 unique monthly visitors in September 2010, significantly higher than 632 783 visitors over the same period in 2009.
The bulk of the unique browsers visited the top 10 mobile websites, which is made up of mainly news, sport and classified services. The top 10 mobile websites in South Africa are below (with unique monthly visitors in brackets):
