SA’s biggest mobile websites
Smartphone penetration rates are increasing very fast in South Africa, with one in every five phones sold by Vodacom being a smartphone.
With the high number of smartphones and Internet capable handsets in South Africa, combined with faster mobile broadband networks from Vodacom, MTN, Cell C and 8ta, it is hardly surprising that mobile websites are growing rapidly in the country.
According to the latest Nielsen Online Ranking Report for mobile websites, 3,266,151 unique browsers visited DMMA registered mobile websites in October. This figure represents a staggering year on year growth of 371%.
Despite the fact that more mobile websites are now registered with the DMMA, which in turn boosts the stats, it is clear that there is a great deal of growth in the mobile Internet market in South Africa.
As a sport crazy nation it is not surprising that news and sport dominates the mobile website market with Supersport Mobi, News24 Mobi and IOL mobile ranked as the top 3 mobile websites in South Africa.
