Netflix cracks down on IPv6 tunnels for geo-unblocking

Netflix has started blocking subscribers who stream video from it via an IPv6 tunnel broker, TorrentFreak reported.

Hurricane Electric is one such tunnel broker, which offers free tunnels to users on IPv4 connections.

This lets you access sites and services on the Internet that are only available at IPv6 addresses when you are stuck behind an IPv4 address.

While not designed to circumvent Netflix’s geographic restrictions, Hurricane Electric’s endpoints in the United States proved to be a way for subscribers to access Netflix’s US library.

TorrentFreak said Netflix is putting an end to this, including for Hurricane Electric users who are within the United States.
