Microsoft, Apple, and Google should block pirate downloads

A new report suggests that operating systems by Microsoft, Apple, and Google should block pirate downloads from The Pirate Bay and other torrent websites.

The report by Black Market Watch and the Global Initiative against Transnational Organized Crime made recommendations on how to fight online piracy in Sweden.

According to TorrentFreak, the focus is on how Internet service providers can combat piracy. The report also suggests that pirated content should be blocked at the operating system level.

“Other players that possess the potential ability to limit piracy are the companies that own the major operating systems,” stated the report.

“Sweden’s ability to influence this as a single state is small, but it can take action through the EU and the international community. Copyright holders can also play a role in promoting this through international industry associations.”
