Google to take on Uber

The Wall Street Journal has reported that Google is taking on Uber with its own ride-sharing service in San Francisco.

According to the report, the service “would help commuters carpool at far cheaper rates”.

While Uber and Lyft are essentially taxi services which people order on-demand, Google partnered with Waze to connect with commuters.

The Google and Waze service connects “riders with drivers who are already headed in the same direction,” said the Wall Street Journal.

Waze said it is planning to make rates low enough to ensure that drivers do not use the service to operate as a taxi.
