MTN InternetOnTV versus Vodacom WebBox
MTN yesterday launched its InternetOnTV device – a home phone and internet device in one, including a built-in 3G modem that supports 7.2Mbps connectivity.
This device, MTN says, is aimed at “bringing affordable internet access to South Africa’s unconnected masses.”
Vodacom last week announced their WebBox Internet TV device, also aimed at users who are looking to use their television as a monitor to surf the web.
The two devices are substantially different – not only in price, but also when it comes to hardware specifications.
Vodacom’s device is a small (even sexy) keyboard with all functionality built in while MTN’s offering looks like a desktop phone with mouse and keyboard peripheral attachments.
The following table compares the two devices on some of the basic specifications, including price and connectivity options.
